Zó Project is a social enterprise that’s working to preserve the art and knowledge behind making traditional Dó paper, and in turn provide a sustainable form of income for the paper making families of Suoi Co village in Hoa Binh.
The team at Zó are passionate about preserving Vietnamese cultural traditions and ensuring the knowledge is passed on to younger generations. Aside from a range of creative and contemporary products which they sell from their retail space on the popular railway street, Zó Project runs calligraphy, watercolour and earring-making classes as well as paper-making tours to Suoi Co.
We spent a Sunday afternoon with Nguyễn Văn Chúc, Nguyễn Thì Hậu and their family, learning about the intricacies and steps involved in creating beautiful sheets of paper. Set in the beautiful Jurassic-Park-like terrain of Lương Sơn, Hoa Binh, the village is quaint and welcoming with abundant four-legged friends.
